Kanye West Rants After Beck Wins Album Of The Year Over Beyonce (VIDEO)
Who saw this coming? It looks like Kanye rushing the stage last night at the Grammys wasn’t a joke. Many people assumed he was just giving us a flashback to the Taylor Swift moment years ago, but it turns out he was actually pissed about Beck’s Album of the Year win. He opened up after the big show during an interview with E!.
He started off saying, “I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t going to play with them no more. ‘Flawless.’ Beyoncé’s video. And Beck needs to respect artistry, and he should have given his award to Beyoncé.”
And then he activated full Kanye rant mode. You can watch the interview down below. If you’re unable to watch it right now, we also have the full quote just below the video…
“At this point, we tired of it. What happens is, when you keep on diminishing art, and not respecting the craft, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration. We, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album, and they feel like it takes them to another place. Then they do this promotional event, and they’ll run the music over somebody’s speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising. No. We not playing with them anymore. And by the way, I got my wife, my daughter, and I got my clothing line, so I’m not going to do nothing that would put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight. But you all knew what it meant when ‘Ye stepped on that stage.”So how did Beck feel about Kanye’s comment? Well, he decided to take the high road when asked about Kanye’s rant. “You can’t please everybody. I still love him and think he’s genius.” The artist told People Magazine.
Admittedly, I know more about film than I do music, so I could sit here and give you all my opinion on this, but it wouldn’t mean much. I will say that I think Kanye needs to start practicing some of that same respect he’s always preaching about. There is a time and place for everything.
