Missing Bronx Zoo Cobra Tweets and Brands himself, Mugs & Shirts for Sale!

Who’s gaining the most twitter followers these days?

How about an escaped snake from the Bronx Zoo? He’s all the Buzz lately.

HOW DID THE SNAKE ESCAPE FROM THE ZOO?

Imagine this, you are at the Zoo with your family and you go to the infamous World of Reptiles exhibit and you see a sign that reads, “Staff observed an adolescent Egyptian cobra missing”. WTF??

Well that’s exactly what happened on March 26th. A highly venomous Egyptian cobra was and still is loose in New York City!

In your mind, you are thinking of some gargantuan serpent; however it’s less than 2 ft. long and pencil thin. As you can imagine, not so easy to find. Little as it might be, it’s still an Egyptian Cobra, which is known to be one bad- ass reptile.

IS THE SNAKE DANGEROUS OR DEADLY?

According to Wikipedia:

Its venom affects the nervous system, stopping the nerve signals from being transmitted to the muscles and at later stages stopping those transmitted to the heart and lungs as well, causing death due to complete respiratory failure. Envenomation causes local pain, severe swelling, bruising, blistering, necrosis and variable non-specific effects which may include headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, collapse or convulsions along with possible moderate to severe flaccid paralysis. Unlike some other African cobras(for example the Red spitting cobra), this species does not spit venom.

In a statement on the Bronx zoo’s website, Jim Breheny the Director of the zoo wrote:

“Right now, it’s the snake’s game. At this point, it’s just like fishing; you put the hook in the water and wait.”

What Mr. Breheny said was correct. It’s the snakes game indeed, someone was clever enough to create a twitter account posing as the snake and he is gaining twitter followers faster then Rebecca Black!

With the name @BronxZoosCobra during the time of this post he had over 150,000 followers.

While most of the tweets are somewhat clever, there are a few that are just down right hilarious.

Some of our favorites:

Checking Google maps. RT @sesamestreet The @bronxzooscobra is visiting places around NYC. Can anyone tell it how to get to Sesame Street?
