Jerry Lewis Cancels Tour and Gets a Standing Ovation

Jerry Lewis, Sydney Australia, Rooty Hill RSL Club

Thank god this isn’t another RIP post.  I’m getting sick of that crap.

However – Jerry Lewis was in bad shape yesterday.  First of all, the comedian is still selling out shows, a fact that is crazy.  Half of my readers don’t even know who he is, and he’s still selling out tours worldwide?

He was all set to perform in Sydney, Australia at the Rooty Hill RSL club.  When his car rolled up, Lewis couldn’t even get out.  The manager of Rooty Hill had to announce to the audience that there will be no concert tonight.

“I told the audience they could have refunds but they rose as one and gave Jerry Lewis a personal standing ovation of support and said his charity could keep their ticket proceeds as a donation,” he said. “It was a very touching gesture that was recorded and will be seen by Mr. Lewis when he is well.”

Wait a minute.  Are you trying to tell me, that the audience didn’t tear that place up, but instead donated the money to charity?  What is this magical place, they call Rooty Hill?

Come to find out, it was a charity dinner of 700 people.  Everyone there purchased a ticket to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, therefore, how could they be that angry?

The head of the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation made a statement as well:

“We would like to apologize to people who purchased tickets for tonight’s show but in unforeseen circumstances, Jerry was not well enough to take the stage. Jerry is in Australia solely to raise awareness of and funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, but understandably his health is the number one priority and this takes precedence. We are very appreciative of those people in attendance tonight who nominated to donate the ticket cost to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation rather than request a refund.”

So what was wrong with Jerry Lewis?

Despite rumors, he was never sent to the hospital.  He was just tired; technically speaking he suffered from exhaustion.  He was seen by an onsite doctor and then recovered in his hotel room.  He was reported to be feeling much better hours later.

He’s canceled the remainder of his dates in Sydney and will try to recoup in time to hit Melbourne.  Lewis is no punk when it comes to illness.  He’s suffers from diabetes, he’s had heart surgery, a few heart attacks, prostate cancer and lung problems.  I guess he’s entitled to a little R&R.
