Adriana Lima caused a stir with her Victoria Secret’s Pre- Show regimen, Now Says it’s Not That Bad.
After the details, including a nine day liquid only diet, she started to take some heat for condoning and promoting extreme dieting. Something the modeling industry is trying to battle – publicly. Privately you need to do what you need to do, to get the job done.
THE PRE ANGEL’S ROUTINE
In Lima’s own words,
“It is really intense, it’s not really the amount of time you spend working out, it’s the intensity: I jump rope, I do boxing, I lift weights, but I get bored doing that. If I am not moving I get bored very easily.”
She sees a nutritionist, who has measured her body’s muscle mass, fat ratio and levels of water retention. He prescribes protein shakes, vitamins and supplements to keep Lima’s energy levels up during this training period. Lima drinks a gallon of water a day.
What really drew attention was the 9 day Pre-routine.
She drinks only protein shakes, no solids at all. The cocktail includes powdered eggs. Two days out, she will stop the daily gallon of water and drink enough to quench her thirst. Then 12 hours before the show, she will halt all water intake.
This is similar to what a bodybuilder goes through before a contest.
WHAT I MEANT WAS…..
After the media backlash she tried to soften the intensity of her lifestyle,
‘It’s not that I do crazy diets throughout the year. I just do it for this particular thing. After this show, I become normal again!’ she told the Canadian network.
‘I know it’s very intense but…I just have an athlete’s mind and I appreciate doing this thing.’
‘This year, even though my diet was intense, I took it a little bit easier on the working out so I won’t be as muscular.’
I’m not surprised and I don’t think she needs to apologize. This is the Victoria Secret’s Angel show. This is the every models dream, and there is no way that they are going to let a bloated gut on game day ruin their dream.
