FALSE RUMOR: Russell Brand could Bank $30 Million in Katy Perry Divorce

This isn’t entirely false, but it’s not entirely true either.  The best I can tell of the origin of this story is from “The Daily News”.  Basically the article goes into details that Katy didn’t get Russell to sign a pre-nup before the two were married, just 14 months ago.

Then the article states: that there is a 50/50 split of a couple’s earnings determined in California law.  In settlements like Mel Gibson, he met his wife before he earned his millions, hence 50% of his earnings was more than $400 Million.

It also stated in the article, the fact that Katy earned about $27 Million from non-stop touring and commercials.  If that $27 Million was earned over the last 14 months, then that would be the amount up for grabs.  Half of that would be just $13.5 Million.  (Did I just say “Just”).  That would still be a huge payday for Brand who is estimated to be worth $17 Million.

This is “if” I interpret the California divorce law correctly….but I could be wrong, and the All Mighty Daily News could be right.  I gladly welcome anyone who has attended one of our nation’s accredited law schools to help me out on this matter, although I bet I’m right. The problem is there are 900 Gossip Blogs who just regurgitate everything they read, word for word…(Yes, I’m hatin’).

“EGO” RUMORED TO BE THE REASON FOR DIVORCE

Rumors were that the reason for the divorce was due to a nonstop battle of the egos.  Brands was out of control, not being able to handle being out shined by Katy.  As an insider told Star magazine,

“I don’t think Russell liked that Katy was the bigger star. He’d pick her to pieces over the most trivial things,”

“I don’t think Russell liked that Katy was the bigger star. He’d pick her to pieces over the most trivial things. I believe the filing of this divorce was as childish as many of their arguments. It was a case of ‘I’m dumping you before you can dump me’, a total pride thing.”

WHY BRAND FILED AND NOT KATY

The other sort of role reversal in all of this, was that Russell Brand filed the paperwork and not Katy.  That was because Katy’s parents are uber religious and she didn’t want it to reflect to them that it was her giving up on her commitment to God.  (Wow, sort of makes marriage sound serious….how about that?).

For now the only statements release from the couple are the two from Brand.  The one Friday after the news of the divorce was released,

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”

And yesterday when interviewed outside the Savoy hotel in London,

I’m doing good. Everything is going to be better next year.’

Let’s see if he still adores Katy enough to let her leave with her money and him with his.
