Mike Tyson Will Headline a One Man Show in Vegas Next Month!
For one week, and one week only Mike Tyson, of all people will have his own show in Vegas. Yep! The show will run for six nights at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
This might sound like a crazy move, but if you have seen the 2009 film, “Tyson”, it’s not that crazy at all. The film is basically Tyson talking about himself telling his life story. James Toback, who put the documentary together, did it in such a way that it became “captivating”. His life story told by him, was inspirational, powerful, sad and surprisingly uplifting.
So why not do a live show?
The one man show called, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth — Live on Stage” will try and recapture the same feeling just like the title says, “live on a stage”. Randy Johnson directed this and co-wrote it with Tyson’s current wife Kiki. Johnson has done similar shows in the past including “One Night with Janis Joplin”.
Once the World’s most recognizable athlete, Johnson is expecting Tyson’s show, if all goes well, to go global. Johnson states,
“we’ll review what happened, look at the next steps, and move forward. The hopes for this are to tour the world — the fan base is staggering.”
Johnsons said there wouldn’t be any boxing scene reenactments but it would be nice to see Tyson bite off an ear! I think a filmed documentary is one thing, but can Tyson pull off a show for six nights in a row? If the show gets personal, and he has to cry – can he do it convincingly again and again? I think critics are about to have a field day with this one.
The show will run April 13-18. It will be in the “Hollywood Theater” of MGM Grand. Tyson is used to selling out their main arena with 15,000 seats, let’s see if he can handle their 740 seat venue.
