RACIST Hunger Games Tweets are Unbelievable, Shocking and Just Plain Saddening.

If you think this country has gotten past race, then thing again.  To see just where we are you can look to Youtube comments and of course twitter, and shockingly, ignorance is still rampant.

The entire trend of racist Hunger Games comments was uncovered by a tumblr site: Hunger Games Tweets.

The tweets come as a result of the Actors Amandla Stenberg and Day Okeniyi landing the roles of Rue and Thresh.  Fans were outraged that the actors were black.

Really?

It’s one thing to be angry that the movie deviated from the book, but to use racists remarks to express your dislike is certainly not called for.  Then to do it via social media is just plain ignorant.  Personally I was and still am disappointed and pissed about the entire thing.  Such a good movie weekend ruined by a few dummies!

FIRST OFF – THE SO-CALLED FANS WERE WRONG – RUE AND THRESH ARE BLACK

The fans are outraged that these characters are black but as the website Jezebel points out, they are black in the book – you freakin’ idiots!

On page 45 of the Suzanne Collins book Rue is seen for the first time:

…And most hauntingly, a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes, but other than that’s she’s very like Prim in size and demeanor…

Then she sees Thresh and similarly describes him

The boy tribute from District 11, Thresh, has the same dark skin as Rue, but the resemblance stops there. He’s one of the giants, probably six and half feet tall and built like an ox.

However, this was overlooked and people reading the book, imagined that the characters were anything but black.  Why?  Because they are racist and they couldn’t conceive black characters in this role.  This is due no doubt to their limited beliefs, one of the drawbacks to being racist.

HOW BAD WERE THE TWEETS? IS EVERYONE OVER REACTING??

No there is no over reacting here.  Not only are these people racist, and have no conception of reading comprehension, they were dumb enough to use their personal accounts, and also to include pictures of their racists face along with their names. DUHHHHH

WARNING: These tweets will or should piss you off and the fact that these are mostly young kids should really make your stomach turn!

Did Cliff Kigar really just refer to this adorable little girl as a “Nigger”.  Is this 1965?  WTF!

I have taken the time to post each one separately blown up so the name and picture of the twitter owners can be seen.  I will also list the twitterers name, put them in the tags and also tag them with linkedin and Facebook.

Although most have closed their accounts, my intention is, when they go looking for a job, running for office, applying for anything, this post comes up, and along with it, their racist tweets.  I will then bookmark this post on redditt, tweet it out to my 6000 twitter followers, send it to my newsletter subscribers and encourage that it be shared.  It’s called taking responsibility for your actions.  It saddens me that my kids will be working for some of these young people or playing with their kids.

If one of these people are friends of yours I now you really know how they think.

SILVER LINING

Since this trend has been exposed, the racist tweets have all but stopped.  There is an awareness that racism and racist thoughts still exist and it goes generations deep.  We all know this, but sometimes it takes something as simple as tweets to remind this of how far we have to go in this country.
