Lady Gaga Set to Release Her Own Social Network called Little Monsters. SMH
Lady Gaga is going Zuckerberg on us, she is releasing her own social network called Little Monsters. Yep, it’s all for Lady Gaga fans. The site is live right now but only in beta testing and it’s invite only. With 25 million followers on twitter, when she is ready for full launch she should have no problem getting people to register.
At first glance it looks like the site is a combination of Pinterests’ mobile app allowing you to grab and pin up cool photos and pics from the internet, camera phone or computer. It also uses functionality like Reddit, Digg and stumbleupon to vote up content that they find “gagalicious”. The thought is that it would operate like a mini world where fans would share photos and videos all tied together by the love of Gaga. It’s enough to make me vomit, but from a business, standpoint it could be pure genius.
Backplane is the tech start up that is responsible for the launch of “Little Monster”. Gaga has a hand in that too, her manger is the company’s founder and she is a major investor. The company’s CEO Matt Michelsen stated,
“Backplane is about bringing together communities and Gaga’s community just so happens to be the community we’re using to learn about proper functionality, We think we can really change the world.”
Although changing the world might seem like a lofty goal, I’m sure they can rake in some serious money. Then use that money to change the world. After this launch Backplane hopes to launch several other website concepts they have on deck. If they utilize Lady Gaga’s continually growing social clout they should at least be able to drive traffic to any idea almost immediately. Gaga’s social media numbers are staggering:
- Google+ – 330,000
- Facebook – 50 Million Fans
- Twitter – 25 Million Tweeps
And of course she has over one BILLION views on YouTube. That’s a lot of star power. I wonder if Little Monsters will allow fan pages for websites??
