Oprah Winfrey Set to Launch Book Club 2.0 on Monday!

Oprah is clawing her way back on top.  She is not giving up without a fight and with that, she is re-releasing her book club.  Book Club 2.0.  This will be bigger, better and more relevant. The new book club will leverage social media with Facebook and Twitter options.

Oprah describes it as different from the old,

This is way different from the old book club. This time it’s an interactive, online club for our digital world.

Sheri Salata who is for the time being president of OWN agrees with Oprah stating,

This is a book club for the way people live and read today, In addition to the traditional way, we also access books on smart phones, e-readers and tablets and we talk to our friends about them through social media. Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 takes the Oprah.com online community, readers of O Magazine and OWN viewers and connects them through their shared love of great books.”
Monday at 12 Noon EST the new book club will be relaunched along with a special eBook of their first pick.
OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB’S FIRST PICK: “Wild”.

The first book to be selected is “Wild”.  It’s written by author Cheryl Strayed and chronicles her trek from the Mojave Desert to Oregon during which she takes the time to deal with the death of her mom and a failed marriage.

The book is so good that it inspired Book Club 2.0.  Oprah was reading through the page turner when she thought, I need a book club.  Winfrey states,

“I was reading this book. As a real book. Holding up the book. I was on the edge of my seat reading the book and I was like, ‘Where is The Oprah Winfrey Show when you need to announce and tell everybody about this book? I need the book club.’ So I created Book Club 2.0 for this book, Wild by Cheryl Strayed!”

This is definitely an honor for Cheryl Strayed and should be a nice boost to her pockets.  They are releasing a special edition of the book along with Oprah’s favorites passages and her notes.  Cheryl Strayed will then be interviewed for a Jul 22nd appearance on OWN’s “Super Soul Sunday”, which will also air on Oprah Radio, as well be featured in July’s O Magazine.

Like I said before, should be a nice chunk of change in Cheryl Strayed’s pocket, it could possibly lead to a movie deal or two.  I can’t wait to see the before and after numbers of her sales!

Remember Toni Morrison, who had four novels chosen, says she got a bigger sales boost from Winfrey than from winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993.
