Gaga’s First Photo Ad for Her New Fragrance and my Continued Annoyance with Everything Gaga

Gaga took to twitter today to post the first look at her new ad for her perfume.

The photo was tweeted with the message,

‘Photo by STEVEN KLEIN. The First Ever Black Eau de Parfum. Model: Lady Gaga.’

Gaga expressed that she was nervous about letting the world see the ad which features a bucked-naked Gaga with little men crawling all over her body.  She says,

‘I won’t lie I’m a bit nervous. its been a while since i’ve shared some work with you. But i’m so proud of Steven+I, we really did not sleep!’

Ok, so now the corporate bull crap.

I will give it to Coty Beauty for making what was probably an off the wall concept come to life.  The perfume is a black liquid that when applied to the skin comes on clear.  There is no denying that that’s a super cool concept.

Renato Semerari, who is the president of Coty Beauty starts to praise Gaga,

‘She is an artist that is never satisfied with the status quo – she always has this way of challenging everybody and trying to do something more, something different.

‘She has her own ideas and very often they’re very interesting and challenging…really, she’s not the one who says, “It’s OK, let’s move on and turn the page.” She’s always thinking, “Can we do more?”

He also called her a zeitgeist in a bottle and says he’s delighted with her innovation.

Then Coty’s CEO joins the ass-kissing fest, Bernd Beetz says,

‘Gaga’s launch represents my personal credo brought to life….Innovate or die! Absolutely everything about this launch is innovative, from the bottle, to the juice, to the lady herself….She’s zeitgeist in a bottle.’

My dislike for Gaga is not her, herself.  It’s the way the public has built her into the artistic, deep soul, trying to just fit into this normal world.  Everyone says she gets naked for artistic reasons, she’s called a zeitgeist.  Let me put everything in realistic terms for everyone……..

Yeah she can sing and dance, but you better believe that when she is in that board room with Coty discussing her ideas, she is like a 16 year old just shouting out ideas crazy concepts.  Coty’s team is the real geniuses behind the product and its execution.  I love how she swears she came up with the ingredients.  Sorry to tell ya, she didn’t. She’s not a chemist.  There were months of development by people who have been formulating consumer products for years.

The ad you see, Steven Klein is the man behind the photoshopped brilliance. You put my head on Shemar Moore and put a mask on my face and I could sell anything.  Why would I be nervous.  It’s not really even me.  Trust me, Lady Gaga’s nude breast hasn’t looked that good, her waistline hasn’t been that tight and her body hasn’t been that curved a day in her life.

Again, to blame Gaga is wrong.  She’s just playing along at this point and it’s working.  She has to continue to put on this charade as a deep thinking intellectual, artistic Gaga.   When asked about the name of her fragrance and why the name “Fame” was chosen she says,

‘Fame is an illusion – if you really want it, anyone can have it.’

WTF is that supposed to mean?  Tell that to the 1000 starving artists waiting tables who really “want it” who go home to their trailers or live in their cars and they will tell you to GFYS.

The best part of all, this perfume will break records when it hits the market and everyone including Coty knows it.  Kudos to Gaga and her entire team for putting together a rock solid ad campaign a unique concept and creating the right buzz to move products.  That’s what I’m impressed with.

What say you?
