What do You Think of Caroline Wozniacki’s impersonation of Serena Williams? Racially Wrong or Innocent Joke.

The incident occurred when Caroline matched up against Maria Sharpova in Brazil.  She stuffed towels down her bra and in her butt to mimic the figure of Serena Williams.

I’m going with innocent joke.  I continue to think that we are way too quick to reach for the race button.  In fact I think that if you assume it’s racially insensitive then you are being slightly racist yourself.  You are buying into the notion that only black woman have fat butts and big breasts.

We can debate that poking fun of features that are obviously different between races is racially insensitive, like if she was to wear fake, big pink lips.  I get it.  It’s sort of the same, but to a lesser degree.

At only 22 years old, and probably not being exposed to many women of color, I’m sure it was just a bad joke.  A bad dumb joke.  It wasn’t even remotely funny.  Would I ever do anything like that?  No – that’s because I’m black and I’m typically funny.
