Carly Rae Jepsen and Train Will Not Perform at Boy Scouts Event due to their Anti-Gay Positioning.

Carly Rae Jepsen has had enough with the Boy Scouts.  She was on deck to perform at the National Scout Jamboree this summer but decided against it, due to the Boy Scouts’ position on having gay scouts and/or leaders.

If there was any doubt on her reason for withdrawing, her twitter account made everything crystal clear.  She doesn’t stand for discrimination of any kind.

Train, although they didn’t make as many headlines as like Carly Rae did also agreed to perform before they were made aware of the Boy Scouts position against homosexuality.  It was brought to Train’s attention after a petition by a former gay boy scout drew the attention of GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).

Train released a statement on their website basically telling the Boy Scouts if they reverse their stance before the concert, they would be more than happy to participate:

“When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America, we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization. Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen. We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then.”

The Boy Scouts response was non-committal and actually cleverly written.  They used the Scouting magazine website as their venue for communication,

“We appreciate everyone’s right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great jamboree program for our Scouts.”

There will be a Boy Scouts national meeting in May where they will most likely formalize their position one way or another.  Hopefully there will still be time left to book an act before the July Jamboree event.
