Shocking Jay Z News!
You might want to sit down for this one. Jay Z has officially taken the hyphen out of his name, which use to be ‘Jay-Z.’
Is your mind blown right now? I can hardly contain myself. Billboard editor Joe Levy broke the news on his Twitter account Wednesday night,
“Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note.”
No one really knows why he decided to end his 19 year relationship with the mark, but we’re sure the hyphen mark is just devastated over the news. People have been cutting out the hyphen mark in certain words for awhile now. Did you know that “today” and “ice cream” had hyphen marks at one point? No one would ever think to type “to-day” anymore.
Hopefully Jay Z will release a statement on this issue because it really should be addressed. Did he think he could just slide this scandal under the rug? We want answers! How dare he not include us on this very important decision.
I’ll be looking out for an apology and a 10,000 word essay on why he broke up with the hyphen mark. Get on it, Jay Z.
We did try to reach out to the hyphen mark for a comment on the situation, but reps for the mark said that “hyphen was inconsolable” at the moment. Poor guy.
