President Obama Talks About Trayvon Martin And Russia On Tonight Show

The President of the United States stopped by The Tonight Show With Jay Leno the other day and discussed some of the latest hot topics.

Leno brought up the Trayvon Martin tragedy and complimented Obama on how he handled the situation, calling his remarks after the Zimmerman trail “eloquent.”

“I think we were all troubled by what happened, and any of us who are parents can imagine the heartache that those parents went through. It doesn’t mean that Trayvon was a perfect kid, none of us were…You’re a teenager, you’re gonna mess up and you won’t always have the best judgment.

But what I think all of us agree to is that we should have a criminal justice system that is fair, that’s just. I wanted to try to explain why this was a sensitive topic for African-American families because a lot of people know the experience of being followed or being viewed suspiciously.”

After finishing up his comments on the Martin situation, the topic then moved on to Russia’s discrimination toward homosexuals,

“I think (President) Putin and Russia have a big stake in making sure that the Olympics work. I think they understand that for most of the countries that participate in the Olympics we wouldn’t tolerate gays and lesbians being treated differently.

If Russia wants to uphold the Olympic spirit, every judgment should be made on the track, in the pool or on the balance beam, and sexual orientation shouldn’t have anything to do with it.”

Obama does know that Russia is hosting the Winter Olympics, right? Because all the events he mentioned were Summer Olympic events. I can’t blame him, though. No one really cares about the Winter Olympics, anyway.

No one is going to stay home from work to watch an intense game of curling.
