Selena Gomez Banned From Russia

Well, there is bad news for any Selena Gomez fans out in Russia. The 21-year-old singer has been banned from performing in Russia because of her support of gay and lesbian rights.

As we all know, Russia does not seem to like gay people and they have recently passed laws against public advocacy of the gay community. The Moscow Times reports that officials have made it harder for artists like Selena to enter the country because of its tough stance on the support of homosexuality.

This news is somewhat surprising considering she was scheduled to perform in Moscow next week, however, that will not be happening now. A gay rights activist by the name of John Becker had this to say about the new development,

“This cancellation of Selena Gomez’s visa shows that the Russian government is sensitive and on the defense, and shows that the pressure from people all around the world and the backlash against these laws is strong. They’re afraid to have someone like Selena Gomez come in and potentially use her platform to advance LGBT rights.”

I guess this means that Richard Simmons won’t be putting on any group workout sessions over there anytime soon, which is just a shame. I’m sure there are a lot of people over there that would love to sweat it out with Richard.

It’s okay, though. Russia will come around eventually. Richard still loves you all…
