Will Smith Reacts to James Avery’s Death On Facebook

As we reported to you all last week, James Avery, died at the age of 68 on New Year’s Eve. News of his death spread through Hollywood and several actors took to their Twitter and Facebook accounts to pay their respects to the great actor.

Of course, James Avery was best known for his work on, ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’. He played Uncle Phil and was right in the middle of some of the most touching sitcom moments in the history of television.

Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the show, spoke about the love he had for James Avery. He told TMZ the following,

‘My fondest memory would pretty much be the days in which he would play his incredible jazz music. I would always go in his dressing room and he would have the most amazing jazz music playing.”

Even Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, wrote about his death on Facebook last week,

“James Avery who we all lovingly know as Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince has passed. Our condolences to aunt Florence [his mother], Miss Barbara [his wife] and all those who loved him. Rest in peace James.”

But there was one person who hadn’t spoke publicly about the death of Avery. Will Smith. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had been quiet about Avery’s death this past week, but the 45-year-old actor finally opened on his Facebook account last night,

“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace.”

He also posted the reunion photo (from 2011) you see down below, stating that this was the last time they were together.
