Jennifer Lawrence Makes Rape Joke, World Begins To Fall Out Of Love With Her

A year ago, Jennifer Lawrence was loved by almost everyone. She was adorable, quirky and she had a personality, which most celebrities in Hollywood seem to lack.

But now her strange sense of humor is getting her into trouble. The 23-year-old actress is getting slammed by the media after she was overheard making a rape joke at the Vanity Fair Cannes Film Festival party.

Lawrence blurted out the joke when she noticed ‘Gravity‘ director Alfonso Cuaron in the crowd. She screamed, like a “crazed fan, or a woman in distress,” which prompted her to joke, “I broke out my rape scream for you!”

Bustle’s Maitri Mehta says Jennifer Lawrence needs to apologize.

“Lawrence is painted as the goofy girl next door that everyone wants to be best friends with, but would you really want to befriend someone that describes excitement as a ‘rape scream? It might seem like a joke to Lawrence, but rape is never an acceptable topic to joke about — especially for a star in a young adult franchise that so many young girls look up to.”

Oh, lawd.

Look, I agree. Rape is not something you should joke about, especially not in public. But the people who write these articles condemning stars over a little joke make me sick.

Is Maitri Mehta a saint? Has she never joked about controversial things with her friends? Or what about on her Twitter? I looked at her tweets for a total of five minutes, and found this insensitive joke.

How terrible! Is it okay to joke about murder because the person is dead? That’s understandable. It’s not like the families of murder victims have Twitter accounts or anything.

The fact of the matter is that we all say stupid sh-t sometimes. We all joke about things we shouldn’t joke about. It happens. Let’s just move on and focus on the real problems…

…like gay marriage. Gross.
