Conor McGregor Pulled From UFC 200 and Then Retires. Dana White Explains Everything In Impromptu Interview (VIDEO)

THE UFC ALSO PUT OUT AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE JULY 9TH EVENT

‘UFC President Dana White announced Tuesday that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been pulled from his UFC 200 main event against Nate Diaz on July 9.

‘White revealed that the decision was made by the promotion after McGregor informed UFC officials that he would not participate in any promotional activities, including a commercial shoot and press conferences.

‘The UFC is currently working on a new main event for the card, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Other bouts currently set for the event include two title fights, with Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar battling for the interim featherweight title, and Miesha Tate defending her UFC women’s bantamweight crown against Amanda Nunes.’

The financial returns on putting on a fight are built around a formula.  That formula works when the right amount of press is done, the right amount of commercials are run and everyone plays their part.  When you have a reputation of your fighters always showing up to press events on time then you get news outlets committing their best journalists.  This in turn gets you the headlines needed to promote the event.  When your star fighter doesn’t participate, then the entire business model fall apart.  What Diaz did was pull McGregor.  This stops all the speculation regarding if McGregor is going to show up or not.  Then you create new buzz by not naming his replacement right away.  Lastly you let everyone know, fighters fans and business partners that you run a tight ship.  That goes a long way.
