YES! The ‘Urban Myths’ Episode Featuring A White Actor Playing Michael Jackson Has Been Canceled After Paris Jackson Slams The Network!
Today is a good day, folks. A real good day. For one, It’s Friday and most of you lucky people have a three-day weekend coming up. And second, that incredibly offensive ‘Urban Myths‘ episode we told you about earlier this week?
Well, it’s been canceled.
If you missed our previous post, you can click on this link to check out the trailer for the show, which features a white actor named Joseph Fiennes playing Michael Jackson.
The episode was titled, “Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon” and was about an alleged road trip the three stars shared together after they were forced to flee New York City following the 9/11 attacks. It was scheduled to air later this month.
But after the internet properly lambasted the network for hiring a white actor to play the legend Michael Jackson, they started to have concerns.
And then they decided to just remove the episode from the schedule when Michael’s daughter Paris Jackson went on Twitter to slam the decision and defend her father:
It appears the backlash from Jackson’s family is what made the network, Sky Arts, change their mind on airing the episode.
They released the statement you see below early this morning…
“We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon, a 30min episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths. This decision was taken in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events & never intended to cause any offence. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.”
It’s great they made the right decision, but it’s shocking to see how long it took them to realize it.
