Kanye West Has Filed To Legally Change His Name To Ye

Rappers change names like Miley Cyrus changes sexual orientation. I mean, how many different names have we had to call Diddy?

Now Kanye West wants to get in on the action. According to multiple reports, the 44-year-old rapper has filed a request to change his name from Kanye Omari West to just “Ye”.

In the docs, he explained his reasoning as “personal” and did not really expand on that. He first gave himself the “Ye” nickname back in 2018 before his SNL appearance. He tweeted, “The being formally known as Kanye West…I am YE.”

In an interview around that same time, West explained why he liked the name so much…

I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.

In order for this name change to take place, a judge will need to sign off on the petition. We’re not sure how often names get approved/denied, but we can’t imagine a judge caring that much. If Kanye wants to change his name to Ye, what’s the big deal?

As for the music? Well, fans are still waiting for his ‘Donda’ album, which was originally supposed to be released back in July.

Rather than release the album on streaming platforms, Kanye has chosen to host listening parties across the United States. He’s put on two events in Atlanta, Georgia so far, and is slated to hold his latest gathering in his hometown of Chicago on Aug. 26.
