Al Roker Says These Two Things Helped Him Lose 45 Pounds In Just A Few Months

As some of you may remember, Al Roker used to be a pretty big dude. He was overweight most of his life, but then decided to change things in the early 2000s. He underwent gastric bypass surgery to lose weight back in 2002. He weighed nearly 350 pounds at the time.

And while he’s had some ups and downs in the past twenty years, he’s managed to keep most of the weight off. Back in March, he shared this photo to his Instagram, with the caption, Hard to believe it was 20 years ago today, I wore these size 54 Levi jeans to my #gastricbypass at 340 lbs and here I am today. It’s still a struggle but I’m never going back.”

And apparently, after posting the celebratory post, good ol’ Al decided he needed to lose even more weight. So for the past few months, he’s been cutting back on carbs and going on daily walks.

On Monday, he went on ‘Today‘ to talk about how he recently dropped 45 pounds.

Exercise, and not extreme exercise — we’re doing that 30-day walking challenge — that improves, I think, your mental health, combined with a low-carb diet. I’ve lost about 45 pounds in the last several months. I do about 100 grams of carbs a day and I walk. “I’m the oldest person here. I’m trying to last a little longer.

Al has been taking his health seriously ever since he was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in late 2020. Thankfully, it was in the early stages and he made a full recovery, but we’re sure it sparked something in him.

For those wondering, the jolly weatherman is 67-years-old, and we certainly hope these daily walks extend his life. Heck, I want to see a 110-year-old Al Roker giving me daily weather reports.
