Robert Downey Jr. Has Been Financially Supporting Armie Hammer Through Career/Personal Crisis

You hear the name “Armie Hammer” now and you instantly think “CANNIBAL!” — It’s honestly pretty wild how quickly his acting career came crashing down following truly bizarre allegations against him. He was accused of cheating on his wife with multiple women, and one woman claimed that he raped her. She also shared messages of Hammer talking about eating her flesh.

So yeah, at best, the dude is a cheater and an aspiring cannibal, and at worst he’s a rapist. No one wanted to book him in Hollywood. He was dropped by a movie he was supposed to film with Jennifer Lopez, and then entered rehab for nearly half a year.

Ever since then, he’s been living a low profile life in the Caymans. Well, it was low profile until last week when a producer posted a photo of a pamphlet for a family-owned vacation club in the Caymans. And in the pamphlet, there was a photo of Hammer. The paper identified him as a “personal concierge” to the guests.

The producer wrote:

My friends’ parents went on vacation in the Cayman Islands and Armie Hammer was their concierge I’m still not over it.

After the tweet and photo went viral, both TMZ and Variety were able to confirm that the 35-year-old actor has been working as a timeshare salesman.

This prompted a lot of ridicule online and apparently the media rushed to the Caymans. Because of this new attention, Hammer and his family (including his wife, who is still by his side) jumped on a plane to Los Angeles.

And guess where they’re staying? At a house owned by Robert Downey Jr., and it turns out Downey has been helping Hammer for a while now. He reportedly paid for Hammer’s expensive six-month rehab stint in Florida.

In addition to providing Hammer a temporary place to stay, Downey has been providing Hammer financial assistance until he gets back on his feet, according to the same person. (Representatives for Downey have not yet responded to Vanity Fair’s request for comment.)

Hammer and Downey are both former addicts, so perhaps Downey feels some sense of responsibility to help? I think there are probably more worthy people to help, but hey, maybe he’s helping them too. After all, he has a net worth of $300 million. It pays to be in Marvel.

So where does Hammer go from here? Not sure, but he comes from money, and apparently has friends with money, so I’m sure he’ll be just fine.
