Wendy Williams’ Ex-Husband Kevin Hunter Claims Producers On ‘Wendy Williams Show’ Refused To Help With Her Addiction
It looks like almost no one was looking out for Wendy Williams as she slowly drifted into the land of crazy while trying to host her daytime talk show, The Wendy Williams Show.
Some of you may remember that back in 2019, she went on hiatus from her show for two months, claiming it was to treat her Graves’ disease. But then it was revealed she had been living in a sober living facility and was struggling with alcohol and pills.
She would never return to the show in true form. The producers blamed her thyroid condition, COVID-19, and a myriad of other things until finally she was officially dropped earlier this year. Her long-running show is now being replaced by another daytime talk show hosted by Sherri Shepherd, who would often fill in for Wendy. Sherri’s show will debut in September.
According to Wendy’s ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, producers of The Wendy Williams Show did not care about their star. He says that Debmar-Mercury would not “sign off” on agreeing to get Wendy help for her addiction.
Debmar would not support Wendy’s recovery efforts with the family. They would not sign off on anything that would’ve helped her recovery efforts. They sat in a meeting with her whole family, including her now-deceased mom, and would not sign off on the recovery efforts that would’ve helped Wendy also get well and live and be sober. They basically said, ‘If you don’t stop drinking, you’re going to lose the show.’
This alleged meeting/intervention went down just a couple months before Hunter welcomed a child with Sharina Hudson. This was also around the time when Wendy was working full-time while living in a sober house.
A source told Page Six:
It’s safe to say that when she came out of the sober house before [she divorced Hunter] that she still wasn’t capable of making all the decisions. She wasn’t capable then, but she was hiding it.
Wendy filed for divorce from Hunter in 2019.
As for what’s next on Wendy’s plate? Well, she continues telling anyone who will listen that she’s planning on returning with a podcast. But we’ll see if that actually happens. Most people agree both her physical and mental health won’t allow her to take on such a demanding gig.
