Ellie Goulding Finally Addresses Those Cheating Rumors Involving Ed Sheeran And Niall Horan
British pop star Ellie Goulding has had one major rumor following her around for years now. Many people believe she cheated on Ed Sheeran with One Direction star, Niall Horan, way back in 2013.
You see, Ed and Goulding were spotted holding hands and acting on all coupley at the MTV VMAs. This was strange to some people because just one week earlier, she was seen packing on the PDA with Horan at a festival in England.
At the time, she tweeted, “I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef–k.”
But Sheeran insisted there was more between them. A month later, he spoke to a Seattle radio station and stated, “I mean, normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends. It was going on. And now it’s not,” he told the radio station.
And then on his next album, he released the track “Don’t,” in which he sings about being cheated on by a fellow singer, so of course everyone assumed he was referring to Goulding. In fact, it was even confirmed at one point, but then Sheeran said he never actually confirmed it to the newspaper who said he did.
We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it.
Now years later, Goulding is finally directly addressing the cheating rumor. When a fan commented on a recent TikTok video of hers with, “can’t believe u cheated on ed with niall but slay fr,” Goulding responded with simply, “False!!!!! But also slay.”
For what it’s worth, the 36-year-old singer maintains she never actually had a proper relationship with Ed. She told ELLE U.K. the folllowing in 2015:
I did go on a few dates with Niall but I was never in a relationship with Ed. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.
Sounds like maybe Ed got the wrong impression.
