Don Lemon Returns To CNN After Making Sexist Comments Last Week, Says He’s “Learning”
As we told you last week, CNN anchor Don Lemon made a lot of women upset when he claimed that once they past 50, they’re no longer in their prime. He also added “maybe even in their 40s.”
When his co-anchor pressed him on the matter, he claimed he got the information from Google, whatever the hell that means. It came across as if he was talking about the prime for making babies, which if you believe that’s all women are good for, then I suppose you don’t see anything wrong with what he said.
Ahead of his return on Wednesday morning, the 56-year-old journalist tweeted out an apology:
I appreciate the opportunity to be back on @CNNThisMorning today. To my network, my colleagues and our incredible audience — I’m sorry. I’ve heard you, I’m learning from you, and I’m committed to doing better. See you soon.
Once on-air, there was no mention of the controversy. He and his co-anchor Poppy Harlow acted as if nothing happened.
According to insiders at the network, Lemon has agreed to undergo “formal training” after having a meaningful conversation with new CEO, Chris Licht.
Insiders also added that even beyond this Lemon debacle, things are tense at CNN. A lot of staffers don’t like working under Licht and miss old boss Jeff Zucker, who stepped down last year after failing to disclose a long-term relationship with a former top aide to Andrew Cuomo.
A source had this to say about Licht.
They don’t like his vision. He’s not Jeff. People trusted Jeff. Chris Licht has put all his apples in this cart with Don and the morning show. It has to work. What does a future look like at this network with a show that is past the point of growing pains?
