Don Lemon Was Fired From CNN, And Some Say It’s Because Of This Interview!
Yesterday was a pretty huge day in the cable news world. Both Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon were fired from their respective networks. If you missed the news on Tucker, you can click on this link to hear more about it.
But right now, we’re going to focus on Don Lemon. He was reportedly on thin ice over at CNN after his sexist/ageist remarks a couple months back. You’ll remember he tried to say women over the age of 40 were past their prime, which did not sit well with his co-anchors. He then tried to back himself out of it by saying he was just repeating what Google said.
Those remarks, combined with lower ratings for his morning program, made him a target at CNN. The 57-year-old anchor shocked fans late Monday morning when he went on his Twitter account to reveal CNN fired him without even giving him a warning.
I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.
So you can see he claims that management didn’t tell him directly, but CNN released their own statement, claiming they reached out to his agent to schedule a meeting, and he refused. And if that did happen, he likely refused because he knew they were going to fire him.
Who would want to attend that meeting?
Anyway, a source who talked with The New York Times suggests it was this fiery exchange with GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy last week that made CNN pull the plug on Lemon’s hosting duties.
Honestly, Lemon wasn’t wrong for getting heated here. You can fact check the claims Vivek was making for yourself and see he was telling 15% of the truth, at best.
That being said, it’s an early morning program, and most people want something light. Look at Good Morning America. It’s all cat videos and sh*t.
This is not the look CNN wants at 8 in the morning, which is probably why Lemon was fired. He just wasn’t getting the memo.
