Demi Lovato Is Using “She/Her” Pronouns Again Because She Got Tired Of Educating People
Back in May of 2021, Demi Lovato came out as non-binary, which basically means she doesn’t identify with either gender. She doesn’t feel fully female nor fully male.
And because of this, she said she was “officially changing” her pronouns to they/them. And she held on to those “they/them” pronouns for around two years.
But now? She says she just can’t do it anymore. During an interview with GQ Hype Spain, the 30-year-old singer revealed she’s going back to she/her pronouns because it was too exhausting to explain to everyone what they/them meant.
I constantly had to educate people and explain why I identified with those pronouns. It was absolutely exhausting. I just got tired. But for that very reason I know that it is important to continue spreading the word.
She also believes the world should have more gender-neutral spaces for people.
I face this every day. For example, in public toilets. Having to access the women’s bathroom, even though I don’t completely identify with it. Or it also happens when filling out forms, such as government documents or any other where you have to specify your gender. You only have two options, male and female, and I feel like none of that makes sense to me.
I’m sure a lot of you are rolling your eyes right now, but you know, what does it matter? People care too much about what other’s are doing in their own life. Demi Lovato identifying as “them” has zero impact on you.
In any event, you don’t have to worry about that. She’s officially a “she” again. But she does have hope that in the future, it’ll be easier for people like her to accept the “they” status.
