Bradley Cooper Slammed For His Fake Nose In The Upcoming Leonard Bernstein Biopic ‘Maestro’
Uh-oh. Netflix released the first trailer for their upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic, Maestro, and unfortunately the reception hasn’t been great.
It seems like all anyone can focus on is Bradley Cooper’s large prosthetic nose. People are calling it out as the latest example of Hollywood’s stereotypical or inauthentic portrayal of Jewish people.
Many people are looking at actual photos of the man Cooper is portraying, pointing out that his nose was not even that big…
just looked up a picture of the real leonard bernstein…. the big antisemitic prosthetic nose on bradley cooper was definitely not necessary…. pic.twitter.com/nrCgxi9jlL

I mean… Twitter be acting crazy sometimes, but I feel like they have a point with this one.

And while many are calling Cooper out, the family of Bernstein sent out a message of support, claiming the actor worked with them throughout the process to make sure everything was perfect.
Bradley Cooper included the three of us along every step of his amazing journey as he made his film about our father. We were touched to the core to witness the depth of his commitment, his loving embrace of our father’s music, and the sheer open-hearted joy he brought to his exploration. It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts. It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re perfectly fine with that. We’re also certain that our dad would have been fine with it as well.
I mean, I guess if they’re cool with it, we should be as well? I personally don’t think Cooper had any malicious intent behind the decision. I think, like the person above said, he’s doing it for an Oscar. The Academy f**king loves prosthetics and dramatic changes to one’s body.
