Piers Morgan Attacks Star Wars. Says that Americans Can stick This Over-Rated, Over Hyped Movie Up Our R2-D2’s!

As usual when a celebrity makes a ridiculous comment about anything I get emails, texts and tweets. This was no different. A celebrity had said the unthinkable, someone said that Star Wars not only sucks but has sucked for 40, overrated, overhyped , preposterous years. Who would say such a thing?

That someone was Piers Morgan. When looking for the source of the statement, I found a link to a post and realized that Piers actually writes a column for the Daily Mail. This didn’t come from some reporter that interviewed Piers but from a column that he actually writes himself!

Here is just some of what Piers had to say about our beloved Star Wars,

I watched the exact same ‘thing’ as everyone else, and it left me feeling less enthused than a Jeb Bush rally.

He then describes the trailer in his own words,

A random person walking in the desert, another weird-headed creature, a second random person walking in the desert, more weird-headed creatures, myriad flashing lights, swords and flying saucers, and then the weirdest-headed creature of them all: Harrison Ford (the great man is so facially brown and craggy now I’m only surprised Matt Damon hasn’t tried to land on him.)

‘THE FORCE! IT’S CALLING YOU!’ commanded the announcer.

Well, I’m not in, sorry.

In fact, I’ve never been in when The Force has called.

Star Wars sucks.

He referred to the whole franchise as Naff and explained the word for those not familiar

Naff, for my American friends, is a derogatory term deployed by rich, privileged people (think those who live upstairs at Downton Abbey) when they wish to convey a sense of something being stupid, lame, unpalatable, and quite shudderingly uncool.

Let’s be honest here: did anyone watch that Star Wars trailer last night and genuinely think it was fantastic?

Or were you all just caught up in a very clever, very cynical piece of marketing brilliance by Disney?

Then he summarized the entire thing

I, peering through my dispassionate, uncontaminated eyes, laughed out loud during the trailer and not for any good reasons.

The only Force it reawakened in me is one of even firmer resolution not to go and see this latest diabolical affront to my sophisticated celluloid senses.

You can stick this over-rated, over-hyped, fantastically silly nonsense up your R2-D2.

I have always loved Piers because he is not afraid to say what he means, even if it means bashing America, Americans and American ways all while profiting from a TV Show that was aired in America and being paid with American dollars.

He admits that he’s tried to sit through Star Wars but has never done it, so he has never watched any of the films in its entirety. Believe it or not, me either. But I understand the hype and that hype is an American privilege. I don’t expect Piers to get it. Just as we don’t get the hype about the Royal Family, he doesn’t get it about Star Wars.

Life is hard enough as it is, if we as Americans want to suspend belief and go crazy over fantastically silly nonsense then that’s what we do. Just because the UK doesn’t have anything worth getting excited about is no real reason to pick on Star Wars. Heck, they cover more US celebrity stories then we do.

Saying Star Wars sucks is like saying, Baseball is boring, 4th of July fireworks are same lame thing year after year, Cars can’t fly from building to building like in the Fast & Furious movies, Starbucks is not an experience or Kaitlyn Jenner looks like an ugly-ass man dressed in drag. Although you might be thinking some of that it’s just un-American to say it. And since Piers is not American, I don’t expect him to get it.

Also he is no dummy. What better way to draw people to your column then to pick the biggest, most viral story and go against the grain. Piers used to be editor of The Daily Mirror so he knows how to get views.

However, Piers was right about one thing

Online ticket sales of this 7th Star Wars epic crashed huge movie-goer websites like Fandango.

It’s probably going to be a massive hit, regardless of what I think.

Yep! It already is. Here is the link to the full Piers article – there are over 800 comments and counting. In the meantime, here is the trailer….with slightly more views and comments then Piers column I’m sure.  (26 million views and 62,000 comments so far)
