Sherri Shepherd Reveals Her Life Changed While Serving Eight Days In Jail
You probably didn’t know this, but back in the early ’90s, Sherri Shepherd spent eight days behind bars for owing $10,000 in unpaid moving violations.
This was at the very beginning of her career, so she probably didn’t have the money to pay them. In any event, the cops tracked her down and she had to serve a little over a week in jail.
And you know what? She ain’t mad about it. The daytime talk show host spoke to Page Six this week and admitted that it was actually a life changing experience for her.
At the time I did not think being in jail was a good moment, but looking back I learned to pay all my bills. Jail, that was a classroom… it was a life lesson, and now I pay my bills on time.
But that wasn’t the only lesson she learned in jail. She also learned to believe in herself, thanks to one of the other girls behind bars. She says there was one girl in jail who told everyone else to leave Sherri alone because she was going to be somebody one day.
Her name was Shelby and she came to both my weddings when I got out. But sometimes people see things in you that you don’t see yourself, and when she said those words, ‘Sherri is gonna be somebody,’ I never thought that for myself. So I just knew that something was going to happen.
You can find inspiration in the strangest places, huh? Sometimes all it takes is just one other person believing in you. That’s all Sherri needed.
These days, Sherri has got her own talk show and a net worth over $10 million.
