Jelani Maraj repeatedly raped and sodomized her between April 1st and November 30th of 2015. To make things even worse, the victim is said to be a family member!
Jelani has been offered a deal of 15 years to take an A-II felony of predatory sexual assault of a child.
So far he has not accepted because he is still claiming that he is innocent. If this case goes to trail and he is convicted, he could spend life in prison.
Before the DNA evidence, he was given a plea deal to accept seven years for a B felony for sexual conduct against a minor. At the time seven years seemed crazy and we all thought this was going to blow over.
Now with the DNA match and Bubba waiting for him in the next cell over, 7 years seems like community service compared to life. The sad part is, when one victim surfaces, there are often more. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
