DJ’s Mel Greig and Michael Christian 2Day FM

Two Australian DJ’s Breach Kate Middleton’s and Prince Charles’ Security With a Prank Call.

The danger with letting too many people know too much is that now people can use that information to act up!   After Kate Middleton’s pregnancy was announced, it was also announced that she was staying at the King Edward VII Hospital in Central London. A radio station called the hospital up and pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and her husband Charles.

The 2 DJ’s called up the hospital and with a fake English accent and a fake woman’s voice, pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and asked to speak to their daughter in law, at which point they were then transferred to the actual Ward where The Duchess of Cambridge was being kept.

Mel Greig and Michael Christian were the pranksters, and they were able to get a full update on Kate’s condition.  The nurse in the ward downloaded the two DJ’s and the entire world on details of Middleton’s condition,

“She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night and sleep is good for her. She’s been given some fluids to rehydrate her because she was quite dehydrated when she came in but she’s stable at the moment.”

Here is where it becomes slightly dangerous.  They asked about Prince William and was subsequently given, what I would think to be top secret intel.  They were told that he left the hospital at 9 P.M. and was also told what time would be convenient for them to visit Kate.

After the call was played live on air, one of the hospitals top executives, John Lofthouse released a statement,

“This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff, King Edward VII’s Hospital deeply regrets this incident. This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols.”

I would say so.  The DJ’s ranked this prank call with one of the simplest to execute.  DJ Mike said regarding the call and his colleague’s fake accent,

“If this has worked, it’s the easiest prank call we’ve ever made, Your accent sucked by the way – I just want you to know.”

After ever backlash from the Royal palace the two Australian DJs issued an apology,

“2Day FM sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the enquiry to Kate’s hospital, the radio segment was done with light-hearted intentions.

“We wish Kate and her family all the best and we’re glad to hear she’s doing well.  We thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents.

Here is the unedited call in full.
