Pierce Brosnan’s Daughter Dies

Some sad news to report today. The great actor Pierce Brosnan lost his 41-year-old daughter last Friday after a tough three-year fight with ovarian cancer. The 60-year-old actor was filming an upcoming movie in Eastern Europe, but quickly flew back to the U.K. to be by her side in her final moments.

It is reported that she was surrounded by her family when she passed away. Her father, husband and her two children. Pierce released a statement to People Magazine on the death of his daughter, Charlotte.

“On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean. Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences.”

Sadly, it seems like ovarian cancer runs in Charlotte’s family. Her mom and Brosnan’s first wife died of ovarian cancer back in 1991 when she was still married to Pierce. It’s reported that his wife actually lost her mother to ovarian cancer, as well. One can only hope they do indeed find a cure to stop this horrible disease.

It should be noted that Charlotte was not Pierce’s biological daughter. He adopted Charlotte and her brother back in 1986 after their father died. He had been married to their mom since 1980, so they had developed quite a strong bond before he decided to adopt them.

Back in March of this year, Brosnan actually talked about losing his first wife to cancer. The actor talked with the Daily Mail about his film, “Love Is All You Need.” The movie is actually about a widower who falls in love with a woman battling cancer. He talked about how challenging it was to film a movie that hit so close to home,

“I went through it all, very publicly. Such things draw a mark across your heart and it’s always a part of your life. To watch someone you love have their life eaten away – bit by bit, by this insidious and horrid disease – becomes an indelible part of your psyche. It certainly did for me and, of course, when I received this script, the challenge of playing this part was not lost on me.”

What a horrible loss. To have to go through that even once is horrible, but he’s had to deal with twice now. That’s just terrible. Our thoughts are certainly with Pierce and his family.
