‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Released From Prison Four Years Early

We all knew Amber Portwood wouldn’t actually serve all of her five-year sentence in prison, but we expected her to serve more than 17 months!

The MTV star was released from prison almost four years early. As you all know, she’s been in there since last June, serving a five-year-sentence on drug possession charges.

So, why was she released so early? Well, a lot of it had to do with “good behavior.” Apparently, she was the perfect little angel in prison. You can see how happy she looked leaving the prison in the photo down below…

The chief communications officer of the Indiana Department of Correction told Us Weekly that Amber wasn’t really released “early.”

“She earned a combination of earned credit time for good behavior and completion of programming, which resulted in her period of incarceration being reduced. The vast majority of offenders in our system earn credit time which reduces their period of incarceration.

The courts envision offenders earning this type of credit time, and thus the release is really when it was expected, as opposed to being ‘early.’”

However, Portwood is not out of the woods yet. She will still be on parole for an “unspecified period of time.” Which means she will have to stay clean because they will be performing random drug tests on her.

Amber’s family is hopeful that she is coming out of prison a changed woman. We’re not as optimistic, but we are certainly not rooting against her. We talk a lot of smack, but we always would rather see the good in people.

Speaking of good, what qualifies as “good behavior” in prison? Not stabbing anyone? Making sure you don’t spill bean juice on your jumpsuit?
