Paula Abdul Talks About How She Felt After Hearing American Idol Was Going To End

You all remember Paula Abdul, right? She is the former American Idol judge that made you constantly say, “Huh?” She was on the show for over seven seasons, and I am pretty sure I never “got” any of her critiques. It was like watching Gary Busey explain the difference between Dr. Pepper and Dr. Thunder.

But still, you felt a connection to Paula. You wanted to protect her from those people outside of the American Idol family who loved to make fun of her. SHE WAS OUR CRAZY AUNT! WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN LAUGH AT HER!

Anyway, Abdul is still working on her judging skills. She will be joining the panel of regulars on the new season of So You Think You Can Dance, which should be interesting to watch. The 52-year-old stopped by TODAY recently and talked about how she felt when she heard that Idol would end in 2016.

I found out like everyone else did, and it was bittersweet. I felt a little shocked and melancholy, because I had the blessing of being there since day one. When I left, it was at the height — it was still 30-plus million people watching the show.

She also talked about her strange relationship with Simon Cowell, saying, “For whatever reason, it worked.” It did work. It was wonderful while it lasted.

If you want more Abdul in your life, be sure to catch the 12th season of So You Think You Can Dance.

The party starts June 1.
