Retired Soccer Star Abby Wambach Arrested For DUI In Portland, Apologizes To Friends And Family


Uh-oh. Retired U.S. women’s soccer star Abby Wambach was pulled over late Saturday night in Portland after she failed to stop for a red light. When the officers started talking to Wambach, they noticed obvious signs that she was under the influence of alcohol.

She failed the field sobriety test and was arrested. According to the reports, she also failed a breath test back at the station, but it doesn’t look like police have revealed what her blood alcohol level was.

However, she looks pretty glassy eyed in her mug shot.


We should note that she wasn’t sloppy or difficult during the stop. Police claim she was extremely polite and cooperative. She was released on her own recognizance after being charged with misdemeanor DUII (driving under the influence of intoxicants).

After being released, Wambach went straight to her Facebook page to apologize to her fans, friends and family.

Those that know me, know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down. I take full responsibility for my actions. This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated. I am so sorry to my family, friends, fans and those that look to follow a better example.

She also mentioned that she was driving home from a dinner party at a friend’s house when she was pulled over, so we’re willing to bet she had a little too much wine.

At least she isn’t trying to hide it. Mistakes happen, and I might be wrong, but I truly believe she feels terrible about this.
