Zayn Malik Throws Some Shade At One Direction During AMAs Speech, Then Has Awkward Hello With Niall Horan (VIDEO)

Another award show went down last night. The 2016 American Music Awards were held at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater, and all of your favorite stars were there, including a few members of the *former* boy band One Direction.

Zayn Malik, who left the band almost two years ago, has seen his popularity rise dramatically in 2016. He’s had multiple hits and he proved that leaving the band was the best decision he’s ever made.

This was confirmed once again last night when he won the New Artist of the Year award. It was his first time winning a solo award, and he made sure to throw a little bit of shade at his former band while accepting the award.

This one just has my name on it, right?” He said while inspecting the award.

He then continued by thanking everyone who has helped him get to where he’s at now:

“My family, my mom, my dad, everybody in my family that’s been supporting me over the last year, especially my dad, actually, so thank you, Dad. And a big, big thank you to my f–king fans. You guys are sick. I didn’t expect anybody to still vote for me, so thank you for voting for me and I’ll put it on my fireplace.”

Oddly enough, he did not thank his girlfriend Gigi Hadid, which was especially strange because she was co-hosting the event with Jay Pharoah. But it’s all good, sources say she still greeted him with a hug and a kiss after he left the stage.

And speaking of greetings, Malik and Niall Horan had a pretty awkward one. As Malik was just chilling in his seat enjoying the show, Horan walked by and shook his hand. And that was it. No, “Hey, how are ya’ doing?” or anything.

It was just a “Hi” followed by a handshake. In fact, I’m pretty sure Horan didn’t even stop walking. It was all in motion.
