Thandiwe Newton Slams Sean Penn Over His Outdated Comments On Masculinity

For some reason, Sean Penn thought the whole world wanted to know his thoughts on masculinity and men in 2022.

In two separate interviews this past month, the 61-year-old actor talked about how he feels men are becoming more and more like women, “there has been an absence of male behavior,” he told a reporter.

And then, a few weeks later, he talked about the issue again, this time during an interview he did with his daughter for The Independent:

I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized. I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.

Oh, Sean. I don’t think most women take “masculinity” as a sign of oppression, unless you’re saying aggression, abuse, and rape are key traits of masculinity? What a bizarre thing to say.

Also, I’m pretty sure the type of clothing you wear has no impact on how much of a man you are. Of course, some women probably don’t find a dude wearing a skirt attractive, and that’s perfectly fine. But I don’t think simply wearing a skirt makes you a coward.

There have been a few stars speaking out against Penn’s comments, but none stronger than Thandiwe Newton, who went on her Twitter account to slam the actor…

If you’re wondering what Penn’s daughter thought of his comments, the person conducting the interview claims she appeared to be bored and “staring into space” as he ranted.

Sounds like she’s heard it before.
