Al Roker Gives Update On Tough Health Battle After Spending Four Weeks Inside Hospital

There’s some good news and some bad news for the most famous weatherman in the world, Al Roker. The 68-year-old star was released from the hospital for the second and is now back at home resting. That’s the good news.

The bad news? He was in the hospital for around four weeks, so he lost a lot of energy and strength.

During the Monday episode of the Today Show, Roker phoned in via video call to update his fans.

Listen, it’s been a tough slog. I’m not going to deny this. It’s been the hardest one yet, and, you know, I’ve had my share of surgeries. It gives you a profound sense of gratitude for this outpouring of prayers and thanks. I’m a very fortunate person. You lose a certain amount of muscle mass for every week you’re in the hospital, and I was in the hospital for four weeks. It’s just a certain amount of weakness. I’m doing physical therapy every day, occupational therapy. I’ve got to just get my strength back.

He went on to talk about how he has a “number of issues” but he feels good and strong. Every day he feels a little better, and just the other night, he was able to make dinner.

I made dinner last night. I just feel like this is going to be a little bit of a slog, but there are a lot of people who have to deal with a lot more with a lot fewer resources. I’m very fortunate and very blessed to be able to have the resources I’ve had.

Roker also thanked his co-workers for their support. He personally called out Hoda Kotb for showing up to the hospital nearly every single day, joking that she was an honorary doctor.

It’s not exactly clear when he’ll be back in the studio, but we’re assuming he still needs another week or two of recovery, so it’s possible he doesn’t return until after the holidays.

For those who missed it, Roker was first hospitalized due to blood clots found in his legs.
