Travis Barker’s Fear of Flying Prevents Him from Joining Blink 182’s Tour in Australia.

Travis Barker is suffering from a bad case of Aerophobia.  For those who don’t know, that’s a fear of flying.  His fear is so bad in fact, that he cannot be a part of Blink 182’s tour.  The band will travel through nine cities in Australia, starting tomorrow in Sydney. Not being able to play without a drummer, the band recruited Tenacious D’s drummer Brooks Wackerman.

Barker’s fear of flying is 100% understandable.  Back in 2008, he survived a small plane crash.  He was one of two survivors in the crash that left four dead.  Barker however, did  not escape uninjured.  The drummer suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns from the waist down and had to undergo multiple blood transfusions.

Barker took to his facebook page to let his fans know personally,

“I’m sorry to announce I won’t be joining Blink-182 on this Australian tour. I still haven’t gotten over the horrific events that took place the last time I flew when my plane crashed and four people were killed, two being my best friends

He also let fans know that he was in total agreement with Brooks Wackerman stepping in and taking his place.

“I gave the band my blessing to take another drummer if they still wanted to do the tour without me.  I hope to come to Australia again some day, perhaps by ship if need be. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a boat that worked with the schedule this time around. Once again I’m sorry to all the fans.”

Travis Barker and DJ AM were the only two to survive the crash in 2008.

The victims that didn’t survive were: Barker’s assistant, Chris “Little Chris” Baker,  Barker’s security guard, Charles Still,  the plane’s pilot, Sarah Lemmon and her co-pilot, James Bland.

A year later DJ AM died of a drug overdose.

In light of the last five years, I think his fans will be supportive of Travis’ decision.  I can’t really blame him.
