‘Maury Show’ Set To End Production After More Than 30 Years On Air!
We’ve all heard about the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The super popular daytime talk show is set to end on May 26 after being on air for 19 seasons.
But Ellen isn’t the only one throwing in the towel. It was announced this past weekend that Maury Povich will be ending his syndicated daytime talk show, Maury, after this current season airs. The ‘You Are Not The Father’ show first premiered way back in 1991 as The Maury Povich Show.
In the mid-90s, the title was shortened to Maury. The show has provided so many memorable moments throughout its 30 years on air. It was truly one-of-a-kind, which is saying a lot, because in the ’90s, everyone was getting a talk show.
And while this decision might be a surprise to Maury fans, it was not a surprise to the man himself. In fact, he made the decision to end the show six years ago.
Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!’
Original episodes of the show will air through September, and following that, the show will continue to air reruns in syndication for the foreseeable future, so don’t worry, you’ll still be able to see his familiar face on your television.
It’s hard to believe, but Maury is 83-years-old. He looks good for his age.
But yeah, the dude deserves some time to relax! Damn. For the past thirty years, he’s been doing this sh*t!
Hopefully he lives a happy and healthy life well into his 90s, so he has a little time to relax and enjoy retirement for a bit.
